Firefighters from several Dauphin County departments were called to the active blaze at 3700 Fishing Creek Valley Road around 1:15 a.m., according to Trooper Megan Frazer.
Dauphin County 911 received multiple calls about the fire, including reports of an explosion in the home, Rescue Fire Company 37 said in a statement. When crews arrived, they found heavy flames and began operations alongside West Hanover Fire Company’s Engine 36-3. Firefighters worked in freezing conditions for hours, setting up rural water operations to bring the blaze under control, the department said.
Duncannon Fire Company’s Tanker 2 was dispatched as part of the tanker shuttle, dumping three loads of water before being released after 2 1/2 hours, the company said. Traffic 2 later assisted with shutting down Front Street to allow tankers to refill.
Crews from Middle Paxton FC were still on the scene at 8 a.m., according to state police.
The Dauphin County Coroner's Office and Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshals also responded to the scene, Frazer said.
Two unidentified victims were discovered inside the home, and efforts to confirm their identities are underway, authorities said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” Rescue 37 wrote.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. No further information was available at this time, police said.
